Online Desk: A total of 14 teams of Khulna Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) were formed to monitor the 22 city kitchen markets to keep the price of essentials stable and to resist the dishonest traders during the Holy month of Ramadan.

The decision was made on Monday in a view-exchange meeting with KCCI Directors and leaders of different kitchen markets held at the conference room of Chamber Building with its President Kazi Aminul Haque in the chair, said a KCCI press release here last night.

The 14-monitoring teams, headed by senior vice-president, vice-presidents and directors of the KCCI, will visit all the kitchen markets of the city every day during the Ramadan, the release said, adding: “The teams have been entrusted with the responsibility of taking action if the prices of essential items go beyond the buying capacity of common people.”

The meeting also decided to fix the wholesale and the retail prices of some major commodities. In the meeting, the KCCI president asked all kitchen market traders to display price charts of the daily essentials on the display boards inside their markets, major shops and wholesale hubs.

The KCCI president said, not only the government, businessmen also have the responsibility to control the market price. Prices of the essential commodities have been reduced ahead of the biggest festival of the Muslim Ummah globally, he added.

Manufacturers, wholesalers and retail sellers and their representatives and KCCI directors, among others, attended the meeting.
