Online Desk: Some construction workers were beaten at Madhukhali upazila in Faridpur district after creating unrest among local people by spreading rumor against them of setting fire to a temple.
Of them, two workers succumbed subsequently and five others were injured
Three separate cases were filed over setting fire to the temple, lynching, and obstructing police to perform their duties.
Mohammad Morshed Alam, superintendent of police, stated it at a press conference at his office in Faridpur.
He said police, as well as more than 200 Armed Police Battalion (APBn) and 151 Rapid Reaction Force (RRF) personnel, were deployed to maintain law and order in the district including the area. Four platoons of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and two mobile teams of Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were also deployed.
Operations were continuously being carried out to arrest the culprits involved in the incident.
Notably, rumour about setting fire to a temple in Panchpolli area under Madhukhali upazila was spread around 7:30 pm on Thursday (April 18). After that, the people of the area severely beat the construction workers of a school adjacent to the temple, leaving two workers, also siblings, dead and five others injured.
