Online Desk:  The Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) is set to demonstrate its solidarity with the global student movement supporting Palestine by hosting a flag hoisting event at educational institutions across Bangladesh on May 6.

The gatherings will feature the national flags of Bangladesh and Palestine, symbolizing support for a two-state solution and condemning the ongoing violence against Palestinians. Students are expected to rally at these events, which will take place on various campuses nationwide.

During a press conference, BCL central president Saddam Hossain and general secretary Sheikh Inan announced the initiative, which has already garnered positive reactions on social media, with students expressing their support for the action.

The central event will take place at the base of Raju Sculpture on the Dhaka University campus at 11 am, expecting to draw significant attendance.

This local solidarity action coincides with escalating global protests. In the US, students and teachers have formed encampments on campuses demanding an end to policies supporting Israeli military actions, which they claim contribute to the suffering in Palestine.

BCL reiterated its alignment with the principles of Bangladesh’s founding father, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, who famously said, “The world is divided into two camps, the oppressed and the oppressors. I am with the oppressed.” This reflects the organization’s ongoing commitment to supporting justice-seeking students and educators worldwide.

Highlighting historical parallels, a media release, issued on the occasion, drew comparisons to the genocide during Bangladesh’s 1971 independence war, emphasizing BCL’s historical advocacy for democratic and freedom movements.

The statement also reaffirmed the continuation of Bangabandhu’s policies under the leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, specifically the support for Palestinian independence.

The BCL’s initiative is part of a broader call to action against the atrocities, massacres, and ongoing human rights violations faced by Palestinian civilians, affirming their unwavering support for global peace efforts.
