3 DU students arrested, sent to jail on charge of mugging

DMP Shahbagh Police Station SI Omar Sani Nayeem confirmed the matter to media on Monday morning. Police caught the three red-handed on Saturday night while they were trying to flee.

The arrested students are Fazle Nabid Sakil, 19, of Department of Theatre; Rahat Rahman, 21, of Management Department; and Sadiq Ahammed, 20, of Social Work. SI Omar Sani said the three students demanded Tk 50,000 to a covered van driver in front of BUET mosque. Later, they snatched away Tk 15,000 from the driver. Then, the driver started shouting.

Hearing sound, a patrol team of police with the help of Chawkbazar police caught the three from the scene.  Covered van driver Abu Taher filed a case with Shahbagh Police Station over the incident. The three students were sent to jail following a court order on Sunday.
