The Bangladesh Government Car Drivers Samity has called for the formation of a 9th Pay Commission and an increase in salaries to reflect the current market prices of goods.
Association President Abdur Rahim Hawlader (Rana) presented a seven-point demand at a press conference held at the Jatiya Press Club in the capital on Saturday.
Key demands include representation of government vehicle drivers in the pay commission, a minimum salary of Tk 25,000 for drivers, and the cancellation of the outsourcing system in favour of permanent posts.
The association also called for an end to harassing transfer orders, the cessation of torture and false departmental cases against drivers, and the implementation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s 2015 announcement to cancel block posts for all government employees.
Other demands include the ability for drivers to withdraw 100 percent of their pensions, setting the rate of accuracy at Tk 500 per Tk 1, and establishing salary grades based on the scale announced by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman in 1973.
The association also called for the introduction of a ration system, allowances for clothing, travel, medical expenses, and tiffin, as well as interest-free house loans ranging from Tk 30 lakhs to Tk 50 lakhs.
They proposed raising the age limit for entering government jobs to 35 years and the retirement age to 62 years.
Additionally, they requested that the driving license renewal system for government drivers be streamlined to allow for renewal by depositing money at the port office as before.
The press conference was attended by central committee General Secretary Emdadul Haque Sujon, Vice Presidents Md Mahbub Alam Chowdhury, Md Kabir Hossain, Md Noor Karim, Md Jahangir Alam, Humayun Kabir, Rana Hawlader, and other association leaders.
