According to the national budget placed in parliament on Thursday (June 6), there is a scope of legalising black money through paying a 15 per cent tax on cash, bank deposits, financial securities, or any other forms of wealth. The scope to legalise black money was introduced following the demand of businessmen. The NBR came to know that some businessmen could not show their assets in tax files due to audit-related issues. “That’s why we proposed to introduce it,” the NBR chairman said.
At the post-budget press conference, Prime Minister’s economic adviser Mashiur Rahman said, “The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is investigating the matter. Steps will be taken as per law. We will have to wait until the investigation is completed.” He further said, “Benazir Ahmed will enjoy his rights as a citizen of this country. At the same time, the law will take its own course.”
