Thick police presence in Dhaka, BGB patrol across the country

Online Desk  : Deployment of police and other law enforcement agencies in Dhaka heightened on Monday following announcement of fresh demonstrations by the protesters seeking quota reform. Although, the six coordinators of the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, currently in the custody of the Detective Branch of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, announced the withdrawal of all protests on Sunday night, some coordinators who are not in custody rejected this announcement and called for a new movement. They announced a “student protest” and “protest rally” across the country on Monday. As of the time of writing, no demonstrations have been observed. Despite this, the police prepared in advance for the announced protests.

Since Monday morning, members of the police and other law enforcement agencies have been deployed at key roads and intersections throughout Dhaka. Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members are patrolling the country, including Dhaka. Army patrols are also present in important areas. Increased police presence has been noted in Mohammadpur, Mirpur-10 Roundabout, Badda, Rampura, Press Club, and Jatrabari in the capital. Additional police are visible on the roads, and traffic pressure is evident.

BGB headquarters Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam stated that BGB patrols have been strengthened in strategic areas, including key locations in the capital, to prevent any chaotic situations.Rajam Kumar Saha, Assistant Commissioner (AC) of the Badda Zone, told Jago News that there is no security threat so far and that traffic is moving normally in the Badda area.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) for the Gulshan Division, Rifat Rahman Shamim, assured Jago News that the police have adequate security arrangements in place and that there is no cause for alarm. Traffic is flowing normally on the roads.

Dr. Farooq Hossain, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DC) of the DMP Media and Public Relations Department, informed Jago News that sufficient security measures have been taken in Dhaka to handle any potential situation, including chaos. Additional police are deployed at every corner to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property.
