Online Desk : The Chief Adviser of the interim government, Muhammad Yunus, along with other advisers, paid tribute to the martyrs of the Liberation War at the National Martyrs’ Memorial in Savar. They also honoured the heroes of the 1952 Language Movement at the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka. Prof Yunus and members of his interim cabinet arrived at the National Martyrs’ Memorial shortly before 10:00am on Friday.
He first placed a wreath at 9:55 am, followed by another wreath laid alongside the other advisers. Amid a downpour, they stood in solemn silence, paying their respects to the martyrs as smart contingents of the armed forces gave a state salute, with bugles playing a mournful tune. After signing the visitors’ book, the group proceeded to the Central Shaheed Minar in Dhaka.
At the Central Shaheed Minar, Prof. Yunus and his advisory council arrived shortly after 11:00am. In a similar manner to their tribute at the Martyrs’ Memorial, Prof. Yunus first placed a wreath at the altar, followed by the other advisers. Muhammad Yunus and the other advisers of the interim government were sworn in during a ceremony at Bangabhaban on Thursday night. After taking the oath, Prof. Yunus pledged to present a new vision for Bangladesh.
