Online Desk : Md Zahid Hassan, former General Secretary of the Bangladesh Awami League’s, Cantonment Thana, has been named as one of 11 accused in a vandalism case filed under the Cantonment Police Station. However, Hassan, who has been residing abroad for nearly a year, has categorically denied the allegations, calling them baseless and politically motivated. Sources close to the matter suggest that Hassan’s inclusion in the case may stem from personal enmity. According to one local resident, who spoke on condition of anonymity, Hassan’s political opponents have exploited the situation to falsely implicate him.
Speaking to our correspondent via telephone from the United States, Hassan expressed deep frustration. “I resigned from the Awami League long ago due to differences in principles and ideology. I have no involvement in any political activities at present. These charges are entirely false,” he stated. Hassan revealed that he was forced to leave Bangladesh due to ongoing threats and harassment. “The mental and physical abuse I endured led me to seek refuge abroad. The memories of the persecution I faced continue to affect me deeply, and I live with constant mental trauma,” he explained.
He also challenged the validity of the charges, offering to provide concrete proof of his whereabouts on the day of the alleged incident. “If the law enforcement agencies wish to verify my passport, they will easily find that I was not even in Bangladesh on that specific day. The facts can be checked,” he asserted. Hassan expressed particular concern for the safety of his elderly parents, who remain in Bangladesh. “My home was attacked and looted after I left the country. I fear for my family’s security every day,” he said, urging the government to take necessary measures to ensure their safety.
Making a public plea, Hassan requested that the charges against him be dropped. “I am a victim of a false case. Given my deteriorating physical and mental condition, I request the government to release me from these baseless accusations. I do not wish to face any further threats,” he said. Local police officials declined to comment on the case, which remains under investigation.
