Online Desk  :  Travel bans have been imposed on Prof Shibli Rubayat Ul Islam, former chairman of Bangladesh Securities and Exchange Commission (BSEC), and four others in connection with . Four others are — Muhammad Ashraful Alam Khokan, former deputy press secretary at the Prime Minister’s Office, his wife Rezwana Nur, former lawmaker of Khulna-6 constituency Akhtaruzzaman Babu, and his wife Sharmin Akter.

Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court judge Mohammed Ash-Shams Joglul Hossain, passed the orders on Wednesday after the Anti-Corruption Commission officials submitted three separate applications and pleaded for the travel bans.

ACC Public Prosecutor Mahmud Hossain Jahangir said in the applications ACC mentioned that they are investigating the allegations of acquiring a significant amount of illegal wealth and money laundering through various irregularities and corruption against Shibli, Ashraful, Rezwana, Akhteruzzaman and Sharmin.

Therefore, for the sake of fair investigation, it is necessary to cancel their foreign travel privilege, it said.  The judge also sent copies of the orders to the special superintendent of police (immigration) of the Special Branch for the next course of action, the court sources said.
