Online Desk : Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has issued a warning about a low-pressure system currently forming in the Bay of Bengal and the North Andaman Sea, which has the potential to develop into a depression and possibly a cyclone. Meteorologist AKM Nazmul Hoque indicated that the low-pressure area is projected to intensify into a depression by tomorrow, saying, “There is a chance it will evolve into a cyclone.”
“At present, the system is moving in a west-northwest direction toward the coasts of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha in India. BMD is actively monitoring the situation and will provide alerts to both authorities and the public should the cyclone pose any threat to Bangladesh,” he said. “As a result of this weather development, coastal regions including Khulna, Barishal, and Chattogram may see rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday,” said the meteorologist.
However, Nazmul noted that significant disruptions to daily life due to rainfall are not expected at this time. In its latest update, the BMD highlighted that the low-pressure area has developed over the East Central Bay and North Andaman Sea, with expectations for further strengthening. The department’s five-day weather outlook anticipates a reduction in rainfall activity towards the end of the period. For the next 24 hours, starting at 9:00 AM on Monday, isolated rain or thunderstorms may occur in parts of Chattogram division while the rest of the country is forecasted to experience dry weather with partly cloudy skies.
Daytime temperatures are expected to remain stable with a slight rise in nighttime temperatures. In Dhaka, winds are predicted to blow from the north-northwest at speeds of 8 to 12 km/h. Regarding the onset of winter, Nazmul mentioned that residents in northern regions may start to feel cooler temperatures by mid-November, while those in Dhaka might have to wait until the end of the month.
