Online Desk : Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the upcoming national elections will be conducted using ballot papers, not Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). He made this statement while speaking to reporters at the Agargaon Election Building in the capital on Tuesday (December 17) afternoon. The CEC emphasised that preparations for the national election have been underway from the very first day. “We have all the necessary preparations to conduct the national election. We are fully ready to hold the election as per the timeline indicated by the Chief Adviser,” he said.
Responding to questions regarding local government elections, the CEC clarified that the Chief Adviser’s directive pertains specifically to the parliamentary election, not local government polls. “Our stakeholder political parties have also emphasised parliamentary elections, focusing on the transfer of power from the interim government to an elected government. Therefore, our priority remains the parliamentary elections,” he explained.
Constituency re-demarcation based on fairness : Addressing concerns about constituency boundary re-demarcation, the CEC assured that the process will be carried out fairly and transparently. “If there were irregularities in past delimitation processes, or if boundaries were deliberately adjusted to favor or disadvantage candidates, we will review those issues. It is not about following the 2001 boundaries or the current ones—we will ensure fairness in the process,” he said.
Revised electoral roll : When asked about the electoral roll, the CEC confirmed that the election will be conducted based on a revised final electoral roll. “We will collect updated information through door-to-door verification. Many voters have passed away, some have been excluded, and cases of duplication and foreigners being included in the voter list have come to our attention. After verifying and correcting these issues, we will finalise the voter list for the election,” he added.
Election roadmap : On the question of announcing a roadmap, the CEC said that the Chief Adviser has already provided a deadline. “We will move forward in accordance with that timeline,” he concluded. The CEC’s remarks highlight the commission’s focus on ensuring transparency, fairness, and preparedness in the electoral process, with clear steps outlined to address voter list concerns and boundary re-demarcation issues.
