Online Desk : Five crew members were hacked to death, and three others sustained severe injuries in an attack by miscreants on a fertilizer-laden vessel in the Meghna River in Chandpur. Police recovered the bodies from the MV Al-Bakheera vessel, anchored in the Ishanbala area of the river, on Monday (December 23). The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to crew members of nearby vessels, the MV Al-Bakheera, carrying fertilizer, had departed from Chattogram. As it entered the Chandpur river boundary on Sunday night, pirates boarded the ship and launched a surprise attack. Using sharp weapons, they attacked the crew in separate staff rooms, killing five.
River Police Superintendent Syed Mushfiqur Rahman said, “After receiving a 999 emergency call, we rushed to the scene. Five bodies were found in different rooms of the vessel. We also recovered a mobile phone, which may help uncover further details. The identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.”
