Online Desk : At least two people were killed when a speedboat collided with a bulkhead in the Meghna River in Gajaria upazila, Munshiganj, on Friday night. The deceased were identified as Odud Bepari (35) and Nayeem (30), both residents of Shuagachia in the upazila. The incident occurred around 10:30 pm near Kalipura in Shuagachia Union.
Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Md Alamin of Gojaria Naval Police confirmed the incident to Jago News. He stated that the incident happened in the dark of night when the speedboat, traveling at high speed, crashed into a bulkhead that had been anchored in the river. Two people were killed in the incident, though the exact number of injuries has yet to be confirmed. It is believed that 10-12 people were aboard the speedboat. Sayma Akter, an emergency department doctor at Gajaria Health Complex, reported that three individuals were brought to the hospital. Two were brought in dead, while the third is in critical condition and receiving treatment.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anwar Alam Azad of Gajaria Police Station stated that the bodies of the two deceased are currently at Gajaria Health Complex. The initial assumption is that thick fog caused one vessel to fail to see the other, leading to the collision. However, a detailed investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.
