Online Desk : Former member of the National Board of Revenue (NBR) Matiur Rahman and his wife, former upazila chairman Laila Kaniz, were arrested early Wednesday. A team from the Detective Branch (DB) arrested them from a house in the capital’s Vatara.DMP Deputy Commissioner (media and public relations) Talebur Rahman confirmed the matter.
Talebur Rahman said Matiur Rahman and his wife are accused in several cases. The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) filed three cases against them on January 6. One of the cases was lodged for amassing Tk 124 crore illegally and concealing the information of wealth.
Besides, their children are also accused in these cases, he added. Earlier, Matiur Rahman retired willingly from the NBR. He came to light after his son posted on social media a photo of a sacrificial goat worth Tk12 lakh. The photo went viral and questions were raised about the sources of wealth. Matiur is also accused in six other cases of Tk 85 crore corruption. The ACC is investigating his wealth.
