Online Desk : As previously announced, students of Government Titumir College blocked the Mohakhali-Gulshan road again on Monday by erecting bamboo barricades, demanding that the institution be upgraded to a university. The blockade brought traffic to a standstill on both lanes, causing severe congestion and leaving commuters stranded. The students stated that they have temporarily blocked the Mohakhali-Gulshan road with bamboo barricades. They added that once more students join, they will march in a protest procession to the Amtoli intersection and block the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway. Additionally, they plan to stage blockades at the Gulshan-1 roundabout and Mohakhali railway crossing.
However, on Sunday afternoon, Education Adviser Wahiduddin Mahmud told the media that the demand to transform Titumir College into a university is unreasonable and is not being given special consideration. He further stated that the interim government has no intention of elevating Titumir College to the status of an independent university. Instead, it is working to establish a separate university comprising Dhaka’s seven government colleges, including Titumir College. After the statement of the adviser, students declared they would block the Mohakhali- Gulshan road and railway lines in Mohakhali from today. They are continuing their movement for the sixth consecutive day.
