Online Desk  :  The names of 27 government primary schools in Bangladesh that previously honored Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Sheikh Hasina, and their family members have been changed. The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education published an official notification on Sunday confirming the revisions, reports BSS. Deputy Secretary Rebeka Sultana signed the notification, dated Wednesday, detailing the renaming of institutions across multiple districts. Among the changes, Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Sutrapur, Dhaka, is now Karkunbari Government Primary School, while Taj Mahal Government Primary School replaces Bangabandhu Government Primary School in Mohammadpur, Dhaka.

In Narayanganj, 16 No Bangabandhu Government Primary School has become 16 No Paikpara West Government Primary School. Panchbariya Hasina Wazed Government Primary School in Rajbari is now Panchbariya Government Primary School, and Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Agricultural University Government Primary School in Gazipur has been renamed Gazipur Agricultural University Government Primary School.

Several schools bearing the name of Sheikh Russel have also been renamed. Char Satraj Sheikh Russel Government Primary School in Barishal is now Char Satraj Government Primary School, while Sheikh Russel Government Primary Schools in Naogaon, Panchagarh, and Moulvibazar have also received new names. Dr. MA Wazed Miah Government Primary School in Rangpur is now Subornopukur Government Primary School, and Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Government Primary School in Mymensingh has been renamed Nayapara Government Primary School.

Further changes include renaming Mujib Russel Vidyapeeth Government Primary School in Shariatpur as Harias Government Primary School, and Sheikh Rehana Government Primary School in Tangail as Chatutia Madhyapara Government Primary School. Additionally, the Bangabandhu Bridge East Rehabilitation Government Primary School in Tangail is now Jamuna Bridge Rehabilitation Government Primary School.

The renaming of these schools follows a broader effort to revise official designations, though the ministry has not provided an explanation for the decision. The changes have sparked debate in education and political circles as discussions continue over the significance of naming public institutions after national leaders.
