Online Desk  :   Two shipments totalling 37,250 tonnes of rice from India and Pakistan have docked at Chattogram port.  This includes 26,250 tonnes of raw rice from Pakistan and 11,000 tonnes of parboiled rice from India, according to a notification issued by Imdad Islam, Senior Information Officer of the Food Ministry, on Wednesday, March 5. The notification detailed that the MV CB, carrying 26,250 tonnes of rice imported from Pakistan on a government-to-government (G2G) basis, and the MV HT Unite, with 11,000 tonnes of parboiled rice from India under an international open tender (Package-05), have arrived at the port.

Unloading will commence today, March 5, following sample testing, with all necessary arrangements in place. The Pakistani-flagged MV CB, loaded at Port Qasim, moored at the port’s jetty on Wednesday. Shipping traders highlighted that while Bangladesh has maintained import-export ties with Pakistan for over a decade, including regular private rice imports, this G2G contract stands out. Recently, direct container ship movements between the two nations have also begun.
