Online Desk  :   Workers have lifted the blockade on the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway in Tongi and the Dhaka-Tangail Highway in Gazipur’s Mouchak, allowing traffic to resume. They blocked the highways demanding due wages, overtime, and Eid bonuses, as well as protesting the assault of a co-worker. Although the highways have been cleared, the workers have gathered in front of the factory’s main gate.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, workers from a factory in the Hossain Market area of Tongi, Gazipur, blocked the highway. Later, around 11 am, they lifted the blockade following the intervention of the Bangladesh Army and police, according to Faridul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tongi East Police Station. In another incident, workers of the Globus Garments Ltd factory at Mouchak in Gazipur’s Kaliakair Upazila blocked the Dhaka-Tangail Highway around 8 am in protest against the assault of a fellow worker.

Once aware of the incident, the Industrial Police and the army arrived and convinced the workers to leave the highway. Traffic resumed around 10 am. Riyad Mahmud, officer-in-charge (OC) of Kaliakair Police Station, said that after law enforcement arrived, the workers left the highway and traffic returned to normal.
