Online Desk: Three garment workers who were picked up by some plainclothesmen from Savar on Saturday night, were found at the DB office of Dhaka Metropolitan Police early today, said a family member of one of the three. Tushar Mia, 20, Rasel Mia, 19, and Shawpan Mia, 20, were released around 1:00am, more than 24 hours after their detention, said Hakim Mia, brother of Shawpan. This paper communicated with officials at the DB office but could not get any official comment in this regard.
A top official however said there were many teams working in DMP’s DB wing. He took the names of the trio and said he would look into the matter and inform whether any of his teams picked them up. “My brother’s phone was active even after they were picked up but none responded throughout the day [Sunday]. As we called again around 8:30pm yesterday, a man who said he was a member of police asked us to go to DMP’s DB office on Minto road,” Hakim told our Savar correspondent.
“As we reached there, an official said they picked them up suspecting their involvement in a case. The DB officials released them, including my brother, as they did not find their involvement,” Hakim said. He, however, could not say which DB team picked them up. Shamim Khan, a transport worker, said he and some of his friends, including the three, were hanging out at Tarapur field next to Enam Medical College around 8:30pm on Saturday, when five to six persons on a microbus arrived there.
They introduced themselves as members of DB and whisked away the three, he said, adding they neither brandished any gun nor wore any uniform.
