Online Desk: A youth was killed during a violent clash between police and locals demanding stop of annual Jalsa of Ahmadiyya community (Qadiani) in Panchagarh district. The youth was identified as Arifur Rahman, 28. Besides more than 50 people including 9 police men were injured in the clash. Meanwhile, 17 platoons of BGB have been deployed to control the situation. Local sources said Arifur Rahman was critically injured during the clash.
Later, he died on the way to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. Besides, other injured were admitted to Panchagrh Adhunik Hospital as the condition of many of them were serious, they were referred to Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. Earlier the local devotees staged demonstrations blocking the Panchagarh- Dhaka highway demanding suspension of Ahmadiyya Communities Salana Jalsa.
At that time, chase and counter-chase took place between police and devotees frequently, leaving more than 50 people of both sides injured. A tense situation is prevailing in the area. Besides the plying of vehicles on the roads remains suspended. Local said following Jummah prayer on Friday, devotees assembled and chanted slogan against the Quadianis. Clash broke out when police intercepted the devotees.
