Online Desk : Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Minister Abu Zafar Md Zahid Hossain has said that 14 wards from 14 unions in 14 upazilas have been selected for the pilot distribution of family cards ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr. He made the announcement on Tuesday afternoon after a Cabinet sub-committee meeting held at the Secretariat under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Tariq Rahman. The minister said the programme will be inaugurated on March 10 and launched simultaneously in the selected 14 upazilas. Initially, one ward in each chosen union will be brought under the scheme on an experimental basis. The initiative will later be expanded in phases to cover all upazilas across the country.
He said the final decision to pilot the family card programme was taken following recommendations from a Cabinet sub-committee led by the finance minister. The family card was an election pledge, and the Prime Minister has been working on it for a long time. How to choose? In response to this question, the minister said that selection is not being done. Information is collected through each door-to-door steps approach. Under no circumstances will there be any sorting at home. Selection will be from field level. Information will be collected and will not discriminate or exclude anyone.
Claiming that there is no party affiliation with it, Zahid Hossain said that the program here is political, the government will implement the program. Government officials-employees At the upazila level, we have various officials under the leadership of UNO, they will have committees under their leadership. At the union level we have government employees from various departments, they will have committees headed by them. At the ward level we have various levels of government employees, they will have committees under their leadership.
He said that a first class officer will be given the responsibility of that upazila to supervise the work of each ward. It will be double-layered checking and re-checking, so that mistakes and errors are minimized. The Prime Minister will go to an upazila and he will do it by going to that upazila.
