Online Desk: At least 9 people were killed and 100 injured in an explosion at a building in Dhaka’s Gulistan area this evening. Five firefighting units are working at the scene to carry out a rescue operation, Rashed Bin Khaled, duty officer of the fire service control room.
So far, four bodies were recovered and seven people rescued from the site, he added. He said two buildings — one seven-storeyed and one five-storeyed — were damaged.
Without providing details, fire officials said the explosion took place around 4:45pm near the BRTC bus counter. Meanwhile, more than 70 injured were brought to the Dhaka Medical College Hospital, said Inspector Bachchu Mia, in-charge of DMCH police outpost. The cause of the explosion could not be known immediately.
