Online Desk : Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed has said that plans by a banned political party to hold a procession and rally on its founding anniversary were successfully foiled. Speaking at a press briefing on Tuesday held in connection with security arrangements for the Ashura observance and Tazia procession at Hussaini Dalan Imambara in Old Dhaka, the commissioner said intelligence reports indicated attempts by the banned party to organize gatherings across different areas of the capital.
Mosleh Uddin Ahmed said, “We had intelligence reports of a procession, rally or gathering in different places in Dhaka city on Tuesday on the occasion of the foundation anniversary of a banned party. Accordingly, we have strengthened check posts in different places in Dhaka city, especially in the border areas of Dhaka, for the last three days, and increased the number of pickets, mobile patrols, and foot patrols.”
“We have increased duty and patrolling in plain clothes. Considering the possibility of workers or supporters of the banned party gathering in various places and holding processions or gatherings, we have searched every suspicious place, such as messes, hotels and various places and we have arrested several leaders and activists,” he added.
He said, “We feel that they want to embarrass the government by holding a procession, rally or gathering today and want to deteriorate law and order. The members of the DMP have foiled this plan of theirs so far and we hope that, as much as possible, they will not be able to hold a procession, rally or gathering anywhere during this period.”
Regarding the security measures taken by the DMP on the occasion of Ashura and Tazia processions, the Commissioner said that the DMP has taken extensive and flawless security measures to complete the Tazia procession and various mourning programs organized in the capital on the occasion of the holy Ashura in a peaceful, orderly and solemn manner. On this occasion, special preparations have been made to maintain law and order, traffic management and ensure overall security.
