According to a MIST media release issued on Wednesday, the victory highlights the team’s strong capabilities in designing, planning and developing advanced underwater robotic systems for real-world engineering applications. The MAVIRIO ROV is a remotely operated underwater vehicle developed for complex missions beneath the water surface, including ocean exploration, marine environmental monitoring, underwater infrastructure inspection and repair operations.
Organised by the Marine Technology Society (MTS), the MATE ROV Competition is one of the world’s leading underwater robotics contests, bringing together university teams globally to solve practical marine engineering challenges through innovation and technology.
The MIST Mavirov team comprises students from the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Communication Engineering. Under the guidance of Captain Mohammad Moinul Hasan, the team includes 11 core members and 24 general members.
The team received support from Meghna Group of Industries (MGI) and Pubali Bank PLC as gold sponsors, which helped facilitate their participation in the international competition. The Bangladesh Navy and Bangladesh Coast Guard also extended significant support to the team.
Officials said the achievement reflects Bangladesh’s growing strength in robotics, engineering innovation and participation in global technology competitions.
