Online Desk : At least three people were killed and 15 others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a hydraulic sand-laden truck on the Chandpur-Cumilla highway in Shahrashti upazila of Chandpur on Tuesday morning. The accident occurred in the Baniachho area in front of Patowari Bari. The identities of the deceased, however, could not be known immediately, police officials said.
According to eyewitnesses, the bus, operated by Al-Arafah Paribahan, was heading towards Dhaka when it collided with the truck coming from the opposite direction while attempting to overtake another vehicle. The collision left three passengers dead and 15 others injured on the spot. Both vehicles were thrown off the highway by the impact.
On information, Fire Service personnel and local residents rushed to the scene and began rescue operations. The injured were taken to Shahrashti Upazila Health Complex for treatment. The accident caused a temporary disruption to traffic on the highway. Shahrashti police officer-in-charge Mir Mahbubur Rahman said that three deaths had been confirmed so far.
“Rescue operations are continuing and the death toll may rise. The identities of the deceased could not be confirmed immediately,” he added.
