War behind fuel crisis, not govt : Rizvi

Online Desk  :   BNP acting secretary general Ruhul Kabir Rizvi on Sunday said that the government was not responsible for the ongoing fuel crisis, blaming the situation on the war and a technical fault at the LNG terminal in Maheshkhali. He made the remarks after paying tribute at the graves of former president Ziaur Rahman and former prime minister Khaleda Zia.

Rizvi said that an LNG-laden cargo had already arrived in the country and that gas supply and pressure had increased. He said gas supply had also begun returning to normal after repairs to the Maheshkhali LNG terminal. ‘The government is not responsible for the current fuel crisis. The crisis has been caused by the war. There was also a technical fault at the LNG terminal in Maheshkhali, which has now been repaired,’ Rizvi said.

Speaking about his new responsibility as the BNP acting secretary general, Rizvi said that expired committees of the party’s associate and affiliated organisations would be dissolved and reconstituted. ‘New faces will come to lead these organisations, and the process will continue,’ he said.

Prime minister’s political adviser and former information minister Zahir Uddin Swapan, along with BNP leaders and activists from Barishal district and metropolitan units and several upazilas, were present on the occasion.
