The Daily Morning Voice Online Desk : Professor Runu Iqbal Bithar, younger sister of army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed, on Monday collected nomination paper for Mayor post of Khulna City Corporation (KCC). The KCC election is scheduled to be held on June 12. Prof Runu Iqbal Bithar, wife of late Shahid Iqbal Bithar, was councilor of 24 no Ward of KCC. CurrentlyRunu is a member (Finance and Admin) of Khulna Development Authority (KDA). Expressing interest to work as the City Mother, Prof Runu said if Awami League gives her nomination and she elected in the election she will build Khulna City a green smart city as per Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s announcement. While Runu was a Ward Councilor she had carried out many development works maintaining honesty. Still she is working with many organizations for development of Khulna. Runu sought blessing from all so that she can make Khulna free from corruption in all spheres.
According to the election schedule announced by the Election Commission on April 3, the last date for submission of nomination papers is May 16, scrutiny of nomination papers is May 18 and last date for withdrawal of nomination papers is May 25. In last KCC poll Awami League nominated mayor candidate Talukdar Abdul Khaleq was elected Mayor in 2018.
Abdul Khaleqhad got 1,74,851 votes while his nearest candidate Nazrul Islam Manju of BNP had got 1,09251votes. Other candidates including MuzammelHuq of IslamiAndalon Bangladesh had got 14,363 votes, SM Shafiqur Rahman (Musfiq) had got 1072 votes and Mizanur Rahman of CPB had lost his security by getting 534 votes.
