Online Desk: A Dhaka tribunal today dismissed the case filed against former Ducsu vice president Nurul Haque Nur over “hurting religious sentiments of Awami League activists and its supporters and defaming the party with his derogatory comments”. The tribunal also discharged Nur from the charges, said Special Public Prosecutor Nazrul Islam Shamim.
Judge AM Zulfiker Hayet of Dhaka Cyber Tribunal passed the order finding no cogent grounds to take cognisance of the charges against him. In the order, the judge said the complainant is neither a victim of the circumstances nor an activist of Bangladesh Awami League. Moreover, the investigation officer failed to find the person who circulated the comments on Facebook. So, the probe report was not accepted and Nur was discharged from the case, the judge added.
Mohammad Saiful Islam, an inspector of Cyber and Special Crime Division of DB and also the investigation officer of the case, on February 28, submitted the charge sheet against Nur to the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court in the case. On April 18 of 2021, singer Eleyas Hossain filed the case with Paltan Police Station under the Digital Security Act against Nur for his comments during a Facebook live session on April 14 the same year.
