Online Desk: Dr. A man was killed as a train hit a pickup truck at a level crossing in Afilgate area under Khanjahan Ali Police Station in Khulna early today. The deceased was identified as Afzal Sheikh, 45, from Patharghata village of Gopalganj. He worked as the helper of the pickup truck. The pickup was crossing the level crossing around 4:15am when the accident happened, our Khulna correspondent reports.

The driver of the pickup suffered injuries and is being treated at Khulna Medical College Hospital, said Md Khabir Ahmed, officer-in-charge of Khulna Railway Police Station. Quoting witnesses, the victim’s uncle Md Imran Ullah said the vehicle carrying chicken was hit by the Khulna-bound mail train.

After the accident, locals managed to take Afzal out of the damaged vehicle but he had died on the spot, Imran said. He also said there was no gateman at the level crossing at the time. Afzal’s body was sent to Khulna Medical College Hospital for autopsy, the OC said.
