Online Desk: The High Court (HC) on Monday asked the government to explain why it should not be directed to give Tk 4 crore 22 lakh in compensation to the 11-year-old child, who lost her left hand from electrocution in Feni’s Chhagolnaiya upazila.

An HC bench of Justice KM Kamrul Quader and Mohammad Shawkat Ali Chowdhury issued the rule following a writ petition filed by lawyer Mohammad Monirul Islam Miah. During the hearing, the court also asked the government why their failure to take necessary steps should not be declared illegal.

Power secretary, Chairmenn of Rural Electrification Board and Feni Palli Bidyut Samiti, deputy general manager of  Chhagolnaiya zone Sheikh Azizul Haque Nishan, also the owner of that house where the incident took place, have been asked to explain within four weeks.

It was learnt that 11-year-old Rafi, son of Rezaul Karim Sohag, was electrocuted while he was playing at the veranda of their house. Then some of his left parts were burnt and his left hand was cut by the doctor. The accident happened as there was no cover on the electric wire of the house. He now needs total of Tk 4 crore 22 lakh for his treatment.
