Online Desk: Most parts of the country swelter for the continuing heat wave. Heat wave is sweeping in 43 districts of the country and the temperature may rise. According to the weather forecast, the dwellers of the capital city may experience 39.4 degrees Celsius temperature tomorrow. Today, Dhaka’s maximum temperature was recorded 39.4 degrees Celsius while yesterday it was 37.7 degrees Celsius, according to Bangladesh Metrology Department (BMD).
On April 16, Dhaka recorded its highest temperature in 58 years as the mercury reached 41.1°C. The Dhaka city dwellers witnessed the previous highest temperature of 42°C in 1965.
The highest temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 40.2°C on April 22, 2014 which was the highest in five decades. Before it, the highest temperature in Dhaka was recorded at 39.6°C on April 27, 2009. In 1960, the highest temperature was recorded at 42.3°C. After the country’s independence, the highest temperature was recorded at 45.1°C on May 18, 1972.
Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over many places of the country and it may continue and spread, said a weather forecast issued on Monday. Chuadanga recorded the highest temperature of 41 degrees Celsius in the country today while the temperature was 39.2 degrees Celsius yesterday.
“Mild to moderate heat wave is sweeping over Rajshahi, Khulna and Barishal divisions and the districts of Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Gopalgonj, Manikganj, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, Rangpur, Dinajpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Moulavibazar, Chattogram, Rangamati, Cumilla, Chandpur, Feni, Noakhali and Bandarban and it may continue and spread,” said the bulletin valid for the next 24 hours commencing 9am today.
Weather may remain mainly dry with temporary partly cloudy sky over the country, it added. However, the day and night temperature may rise slightly over the country.
