The Daily Morning Voice S. M. Bappy Online Desk : Geriatric Care Support Bangladesh (GCSB) organized a seminar in the capital on Saturday. The seminar titled ‘Geriatric Care in Bangladesh: An Overview’ was held at BIRDEM general hospital auditorium at Shahbagh at 10 am. The main objectives of the seminar were to portray the importance of old person to young person and safe ageing to old with support of young.
DG of Bangladesh National Nutrition Council (BNNC) Dr Hasan Shahriar Kabir was present at the seminar as chief guest while GCSB president Kazi Md Israfil presided over the seminar. Heroic freedom fighter Prof Dr Arup Ratan Choudhury presented the keynote paper at the seminar. BIRDEM general hospital DG, Prof Dr MKI Quayyum Choudhury and Ibrahim Cardiac Hospital’s CEO Prof Dr. MA Rashid were present as special guests at the function. GCSB advisor Prof Dr Anupam Hossain spoke at the seminar describing long-term plan of GCSB. He said GCSB dreams that soon Bangladesh will be known as old citizen-friendly country in the world. ‘We are working to this end.’
The seminar was addressed, among others, by assistant professor of Cumilla Medical College Prof Dr Arif Morshed Khan, NIPSOM associate professor Dr Nasrin Sultana, GCSB general secretary Shahnaz Shammi and member-secretary of the seminar organizing committee CM Saiful Islam.
The speakers said under this initiative the young will find out the way to change their mindset to respect old people. They called for keeping up Geriatric Care Support team’s such exceptional and time-suitable activities. The seminar had sessions for open discussion and question-answer. About 200 members of GCSB and invited guests participated in the seminar.
