Online Desk: Arrested three accused have been placed on a three-day remand in connection with a case involving mugging of Tk 11 lakh of Islami Bank Limited from Savar. Senior judicial magistrate Rajib Hasan of Dhaka placed them on the remand.
The three accused are Shimul, 36, Towhid Islam, 45, and Jasim Uddin, 45. Savar police produced them before the court in the afternoon. The investigation officer pleaded to the court to place the accused on a seven-day remand. However the court placed them on a seven-day remand after the hearing on bail.
On Saturday, Jasim Uddin was arrested from Patuakhali district. According to his information, Shimul and Towhid Islam were arrested from Narayanganj in the same night. Then police recovered Tk 11 lakh of the mugging and a car used in mugging.
At about 11:45am on May 7 last, marketing officer Habibur Rahman and security personnel Naim Islam of Savar Branch of Islami Bank Limited were going to Hemayetpur Branch with Tk 25 lakh cash. They were waitring for a bus at Ulail Bus Stoppage on the Dhaka-Aricha Highway with the cash. Security personnel Naim was carrying the money inside a black bag. Just at that time, some muggers appeared there and snatched the black bag from Naim. Then the muggers left the place with a private car hurriedly.
On the following day, Islami Bank Limited’s agent banking owner Faizul Huq filed a case with Savar Police Station. It was mentioned in the remand prayer that there are a number of cases pending against the three persons arrested in connection with the mugging. They are the members of an organised gang of muggers. Police need to question them extensively to arrest other members of their gang.
