Online Desk: A Jamalpur court has ordered police to send nine arrested accused of journalist Nadim murder case to jail fixing the remand hearing date for Sunday (June 18, 2023). Jamalpur district judge court’s judge passed the order on Saturday (June 17) afternoon. Earlier, the nine accused were produced before the court by Bakshiganj police at about 3:00pm.
A group of miscreants launched a sudden attack on Banglanews and Ekattor Television correspondent Golam Rabbani Nadim at Pathati crossing in Bakshiganj municipal town when he was returning home at about 10:00pm on Wednesday (June 14). He was mercilessly beaten there. As he fell unconscious at one stage, the attackers fled the spot leaving him behind. Critically injured Nadim was first admitted to Bakshiganj Upazila Health Complex and then to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital as his condition deteriorated. It was very unfortunate that he died at about 2:50pm on Thursday (June 15) while underwent treatment.
Later, a case was filed by Nadim’s wife with Bakshiganj Police Station stating Jamalpur’s Sadhurpara union parishad chairman Mahmudul Alam Babu as the prime accused and his son Fahim Faisal Rifat as the accused No. 2. Prime accused Babu was held from Panchagar border on Saturday morning while fleeing to India.
The law enforcers detained Mahmudul Alam Babu from the border area at Char Tistapara in Chilahati union under Debiganj upazila in Panchagarh district around 7:00am on Saturday, Chilahati union Parishad chairman Harun-ur-Rashid said.
