Online Desk : The Awami League (AL), whose activities remain banned, may attempt to create unrest surrounding its founding anniversary on Tuesday (June 23), Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has said. The minister made the remarks while speaking to journalists at the Secretariat on Monday (June 22), in response to a question.
Asked whether there is any risk of sabotage ahead of the Awami League’s founding anniversary and the deployment of the army in six districts, the Home Minister said that the law and order situation has not deteriorated. However, as a law enforcement authority, the government must remain vigilant at all times.
He added that some “malicious activities” by the Awami League have been observed. “We have seen that they have taken up activities such as processions and meetings in a few districts. Based on that, we felt they might attempt to create instability. Considering this, we have instructed all our forces to remain alert, as is always the case,” he said.
He further said that from today until June 30, army personnel have been deployed under the Aid to the Civil Power Act in Dhaka Metropolitan, Chattogram Metropolitan, Narayanganj, Gazipur Metropolitan areas, and two additional districts to address any kind of subversive activities.
