BGB Seizes Over 100,000 Yaba Tablets in Naikhongchhari Border Operation

The operation was conducted at around 6:45 pm in a cashew plantation area near the border under the jurisdiction of Jaruliachhari Border Outpost (BOP), according to BGB.

Acting on intelligence information about a consignment of narcotics being smuggled into Bangladesh from Myanmar, a BGB team launched a raid in the area. Sensing the presence of law enforcers, the suspected smugglers fled the scene, leaving behind the drugs, officials said. During a subsequent search operation, BGB personnel recovered 100,790 Myanmar-made Yaba tablets packed in 10 cartons.

The seized tablets included 99,792 brown-coloured pills and 998 green-coloured pills. BGB estimated the value of the recovered narcotics at approximately Tk 30.24 million. In a statement, Lt Col Md Faizul Kabir, commanding officer of the Naikhongchhari Battalion (11 BGB), said the force had intensified surveillance and operational activities along the border to curb drug trafficking and other forms of transnational crime.

“BGB maintains a zero-tolerance policy against narcotics. We remain committed to safeguarding the border, preventing smuggling, and combating drug trafficking through enhanced vigilance and enforcement measures,” he said.

Border areas along the Bangladesh-Myanmar frontier have long been considered vulnerable routes for the trafficking of Yaba, a methamphetamine-based drug that continues to pose a major challenge for law enforcement agencies in the country.
