BNP fully support reform process : Mirza Fakhrul

Online Desk : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the party has provided full support to the ongoing reform process, adding that the introduction of the 31-point programme is intended to bring a radical change to the country’s political landscape. “The party’s 31-point programme is designed to introduce comprehensive transformation in Bangladesh’s politics,” he said while speaking to journalists on Monday after paying respects at Ziaur Rahman’s grave marking BNP’s founding anniversary.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “If BNP voted to power under the leadership of its leader Tarique Rahman, the party will drive political change while also fostering economic growth, thereby advancing Bangladesh’s progress.” He highlighted that BNP has repeatedly fought to restore democracy, despite repeated attempts to destroy the party. “Like the Phoenix, BNP has risen each time, guided by the ideals of Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia. Over the past 15 years, in its struggle for democracy, the party has been led by its acting chairman, Tarique Rahman, even while in exile,” he said.
Fakhrul recalled the period of extreme oppression, stating that the primary aim was to obliterate BNP. “False cases were filed against nearly six million party supporters, around 20,000 people were killed, and 1,700 leaders and activists were forcibly disappeared. By the grace of Allah, through the student and public movements, we were able to overcome that terrifying regime and the fascism it represented,” he added. Mirza Fakhrul concluded by noting the current challenge: ensuring that the forthcoming elections scheduled for February are held fairly and smoothly.
