Sources at the university said a faction led by the CU unit BCL’s vice president, Moynul Islam Russel, was behind the hooliganism. Talking to UNB, Russell hardly denied the claim.

Russel, who is the leader of the Ekakar Group, one of the two factions of BCL within the unit, said they were protesting the appointment of ‘an anti-government candidate’ as a teacher. He also vowed: “Until the appointment of anti-government activists is revoked, we will continue our protest.” This incident took place on Monday afternoon after the 541st Syndicate meeting of the University, where various recruitment decisionswere made.
