Home Minister seeks Japan’s support for police reform and restructuring

Online Desk : Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has sought Japan’s cooperation in reforming and restructuring Bangladesh’s police force. The minister made the request during a meeting with Japan’s Ambassador to Bangladesh, Saida Shinichi, at his office in the Ministry of Home Affairs at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Tuesday morning. During the meeting, the minister described Japan as a trusted friend and one of Bangladesh’s largest development partners.
He noted that Japan, through the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), has invested in several major infrastructure projects in Bangladesh, including the metro rail and the third terminal of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
He also mentioned that Japan had previously worked with the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) on traffic safety initiatives. “There are many areas of cooperation between our two countries. Japan can extend support in police reform and restructuring. We will propose several suitable initiatives from our side in this regard,” the minister said.
The two sides discussed a range of issues of mutual interest, including law and order, security cooperation, police restructuring, traffic management, trade, business and investment.
