Inflation falls to 9.16% in June

Online Desk : Bangladesh’s general point-to-point inflation fell slightly to 9.16 percent in June 2026 from 9.42 percent in May, the latest Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS) data showed. Inflation was 9.04 percent in April. The BBS data showed that food inflation declined to 8.60 per cent in June from 9.06 percent in May while non-food inflation also declined to 9.61 percent in June from 9.71 per cent in May this year.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) for June was prepared based on information collected from all 64 districts of the country, it added. Inflation in rural areas declined to 9.23 per cent in June, compared with 9.48 percent in May this year. Rural food inflation declined to 8.52 percent in June down from 8.95 percent in May, while non-food inflation also declined to 9.89 per cent in June from 9.98 percent in May this year.
In urban areas, point-to-point inflation also declined to 9.01 per cent in June from 9.25 per cent in May. Urban food inflation declined to 8.76 percent in June from 9.29 percent in May, while non-food inflation declined to 9.16 percent in June from 9.24 percent in May. The 12-month moving average inflation rate continued to decline.
The moving average inflation for the period from July 2025 to June 2026 was estimated at 8.68 per cent, down significantly from 10.03 per cent during the corresponding period from July 2024 to June 2025. The decline indicates a gradual easing of inflationary pressures on an annual basis. Meanwhile, the national wage rate growth stood at 8.18 percent on a point-to-point basis in June, marginally lower than 8.21 percent recorded in May.
The BBS said the Wage Rate Index for June was prepared using data collected from all 64 districts.
