Jamaat expels Gazi Nazrul over ‘moral misconduct’

Online Desk : Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has expelled Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul Islam from the party after finding evidence of ‘moral misconduct’. The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s central executive committee at the official residence of opposition leader and Jamaat Amir Dr Shafiqur Rahman in Dhaka on Wednesday afternoon, July 22, according to a statement.
Satkhira-4 MP Gazi Nazrul was expelled under Article 62 of Jamaat’s constitution after an organisational investigation into allegations surrounding him published in various media found his moral misconduct to be proven, the statement said.
The Jamaat also said it has decided to inform the Election Commission (EC) soon of the expulsion decision. The decision came after a video involving the Jamaat leader, Gazi Nazrul, and a young woman, showing them in a hotel room, recently went viral on social media, sparking a huge outcry. Later, the lawmaker claimed that the young woman is his second wife.
