A drive for not maintaining price lists, occupying footpaths and creating public suffering

A total of Tk 26,000 in fines has been collected by operating a mobile court against various irregularities in the Comilla Debidwar New Market area.
The drive was conducted at 9 am on Monday (June 22) under the leadership of Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashok Bikram Chakma and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Faisal Uddin, in the presence of the market committee.
During the drive, several traders were fined under Section 38 of the Consumer Rights Protection Act, 2009 for not displaying the correct price list and operating their business by occupying footpaths.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Ashok Bikram Chakma fined grocery trader Babul Mia (55) Tk 3,000 and Amirul Islam (35) Tk 3,000.
Meanwhile, Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Faisal Uddin fined grocer Hare Krishna Saha Tk 5,000, Ismail Kabir (45) Tk 5,000 and Khokon (38) Tk 5,000.
In addition, Mezbah Uddin Khokon was fined another Tk 5,000 for causing public inconvenience by leaving construction materials on the road from New Market to the upazila headquarters.
In all, a total of Tk 26,000 in fines was collected in the operation.
In this regard, Upazila Executive Officer Ashok Bikram Chakma and Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Faisal Uddin said, “The administration’s operation will continue to display the price list of daily necessities in the market, keep the sidewalks free from encroachment and prevent activities against the public interest. Traders are being urged to conduct business in accordance with the law.”
