Online Desk : BNP standing committee member Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury has expressed deep surprise at the address of outgoing chief justice Hasan Foez Siddique.
Speaking at a discussion at Mahanagar Natya Mancha in the capital on Thursday afternoon, he expressed the surprise at the address of the outgoing chief justice. BNP organised the discussion in observance of the party’s 45th founding anniversary. At a farewell reception on Thursday, outgoing chief justice Hasan Foez Siddique said, “Judiciary is the heart of the republic. People of a country may lose faith in the executive branch, but if they lose faith in the judiciary, the nation will have to wait for an ominous and dark day. If the judiciary fails to apply the laws neutrally, the state and its citizens are destined to be affected.” Regarding the remarks of Hasan Foez Siddique, Amir Khasru said, “He (chief justice) has admitted that the judiciary in Bangladesh works in a completely political environment. This message is a very important message to the judiciary, the people, and the people around the world. It means that the judiciary is not independent in Bangladesh.” BNP standing committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy spoke at the discussion as the chief guest. While commenting on the remarks of outgoing chief justice Hasan Foez Siddique, he said, “You do injustice in the name of justice, and become vocal while leaving the chair. You do whatever Sheikh Hasina asks you to do to protect her chair. It is not called the judiciary.” BNP standing committee member Abdul Moyeen Khan who presided over the discussion, said, “Ziaur Rahman had founded the BNP for historic necessity. BNP doesn’t believe in the politics of vengeance. It also doesn’t believe in the politics of bamboo and oars. BNP has been working to establish people’s rights adopting the paths of discipline and democracy.”
