PM pins Vice Admiral rank on new Navy chief

Online Desk  :  Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has conferred the rank of Vice Admiral on newly appointed Chief of the Bangladesh Navy Khondkar Misbah Ul Azim by pinning the rank badges on his shoulders. The insignia-pinning ceremony was held at the Prime Minister’s Office in the Armed Forces Division at Dhaka Cantonment on Thursday morning, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR). The ISPR said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and outgoing Navy Chief Admiral M Nazmul Hassan jointly adorned the newly appointed Navy chief with the Vice Admiral rank badges.

The ceremony was attended by the Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser Brig Gen (Retd.) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Quartermaster General of the Bangladesh Army Lt Gen Md Shahinur Rahman, Principal Staff Officer (PSO) of the Armed Forces Division Lt Gen Mir Mushfiqur Rahman, the Prime Minister’s Military Secretary Maj Gen Abul Hasnat Mohammad Tariq, and Additional Press Secretary to the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Rumon.

Earlier, a notification signed by Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Defence MJ Arif Beg announced that Rear Admiral Misbah Ul Azim had been appointed Chief of the Bangladesh Navy for a three-year term until July 22, 2029. According to the ISPR, Misbah Ul Azim was promoted to the rank of Vice Admiral on July 23 and assumed command as Chief of the Bangladesh Navy on the same day. Vice Admiral Misbah Ul Azim joined the Bangladesh Navy on January 1, 1987, and received his commission in the Executive Branch in 1989. He completed his initial training with distinction in the Royal Malaysian Navy. Alongside advanced military education and training at home and abroad, he earned a PhD in Maritime Governance.

During his nearly four-decade career, he served in a wide range of key command, staff and training appointments in the Bangladesh Navy. In recognition of his distinguished service, he has been awarded the Noubahini Padak (NBP), Nou-Paradarshita Padak (NPP), the National Integrity Award, and several other medals and honours.
