PM visits Matarbari coal-fired power plant

Online Desk : Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday visited the Matarbari Coal-Fired Power Plant in Cox’s Bazar. The prime minister arrived at the project site at around 10:52am and toured different parts of the facility, taking stock of its overall progress and operations. He later attended a review meeting with officials involved in the project, where its progress, implementation status and related issues were discussed.
Upon his arrival in Matarbari, the prime minister was received by State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit, Cox’s Bazar-2 constituency lawmaker Alamgir Md Mahfujullah Farid, and Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md A. Mannan. The prime minister was accompanied on the visit by Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, and Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Iqbal Hassan Mahmood.
Prime Minister’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said the prime minister also inspected the Matarbari Deep Sea Port, the coal-fired power project and the activities of the Maheshkhali Integrated Development Authority. From there, he is scheduled to travel to the recently flood-hit areas of Banshkhali and Hathazari, where he will hand over keys to newly constructed homes to flood-affected families as part of the government’s rehabilitation efforts.
Earlier in the day, the prime minister left his Gulshan residence at around 8:50am and arrived at Tejgaon Airport. He departed by helicopter for Matarbari in Maheshkhali at around 9:15am.
