Online Desk : Home Affairs Adviser Lt Gen (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has stated that the police do not serve any political party, they are state employees funded by taxpayers’ money. ”The main responsibility of the police force is to serve the public and ensure the rule of law,” said the adviser at the passing-out parade of Assistant Police Superintendents at the Sarada Police Academy in Rajshahi. Referring to election-time responsibilities, Jahangir Alam said, ”It is not possible to establish peace through force alone without gaining the trust of the people. The police force is fully prepared to conduct the upcoming national elections in a free, fair and impartial manner. About one lakh police personnel have been given special training to ensure security during the elections.”
The adviser instructed police officers to maintain strict neutrality while performing election duties and not to accept any unethical benefits or hospitality. If any disorder arises at polling centres, it must be dealt with firmly in accordance with the advice of the Returning Officer, he said. He called for building a humane, courageous and proud police force free from corruption and bias, upholding the sacrifices of the people and the expectations of future generations. The Home Affairs Adviser also distributed trophies among the best cadets in different disciplines.
