SSC results not bad, says Education Minister

Online Desk : Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon has said the results of this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations were not bad, but rather “good”, while stressing that examiners could not award marks freely. He made the remarks while responding to a question from journalists at a press conference held at the Education Ministry’s conference room in Dhaka on Monday morning. Asked about teachers being strict in awarding marks this year, the minister said, “You can sing with an open heart, but you cannot give marks with an open heart.”
He also rejected the description of this year’s results as poor. “Why are you calling it a bad result? The result is good,” he told journalists. The minister also said answer scripts of students who apply for re-scrutiny would be fully re-examined.
He said students sometimes failed to achieve the results they expected despite performing well in examinations. “Under the 1998 law of our education boards, there was no provision for inspecting answer scripts. We have now changed that,” he said.
He said the answer scripts of students who apply for re-scrutiny would be examined fully and necessary action would be taken if any errors were found. The SSC and equivalent examination results were published on Monday, with the average pass rate falling to 62.25 per cent. A total of 116,676 students secured GPA-5.
In 2025, the average pass rate was 68.45 per cent and 139,032 students obtained GPA-5. The pass rate and the number of GPA-5 achievers therefore declined compared with last year.
