Online Desk : Twelve more children died from measles and related symptoms across the country in the 24 hours ending Friday morning, according to the latest report from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS). Among the deceased, four were confirmed measles cases, while eight others exhibited severe symptoms of the viral infection.
The DGHS reported that of the four laboratory-confirmed deaths, two were from Dhaka division, with one each from Chattogram and Barishal. Among the eight symptomatic deaths, three were recorded in Dhaka, three in Chattogram, and one each in Mymensingh and Sylhet. These latest fatalities bring the total death toll to 451 since the outbreak intensified on March 15.
The report also highlighted a surge in infections, with 1,192 children newly identified with measles symptoms and 111 confirmed cases in the last 24 hours. Since mid-March, a cumulative total of 55,611 children have shown symptoms of the disease, while 7,416 cases have been officially confirmed through testing.
Hospitalization remains a significant challenge for the national healthcare system. Records show that 40,176 children have been admitted to hospitals with measles-related complications since March 15. While the mortality rate is a growing concern, health officials noted that 36,055 children have successfully recovered and been discharged from medical facilities to date.
