The names of three of the deceased have been identified. They are Kala Das, 30, Akash Das, 28, and Ajit Das, 30. They were reportedly fishermen on their way to Fouzdarhat Sea Beach to catch fish.

Md Alamgir Hossain, deputy assistant director of the Fire Service and Civil Defence in Agrabad, said the accident occurred around 4:55 am when the pick-up van rammed into the stationary covered van from behind. Four people died at the scene, while four others were critically injured and rushed to Chittagong Medical College Hospital by a rescue team from Agrabad Fire Station. One of the injured later died at the hospital. Akbar Shah Police confirmed the pick-up was carrying fishermen but said further details about the victims were still being gathered. An investigation into the incident is underway.
